4-14 October, 2013
Cló and The Living Archive have worked with Artisterium since its inception in 2008, to represent Ireland (both North and South) at Artisterium, Tbilisi International Contemporary Art Exhibition, a visual art event which is the most significant international art event in the South Caucasus.
This year Cló have invited Claire Halpin to present Palimpsest, a project which involves 4 artists who have worked at Cló during 2012 and 4 invited artists to participate as Ireland’s representation at Artisterium VI in October 2013. This collaborative project invites each artist to produce an initial work, scan it and email it to the next artist to respond to by working over it, adding to it or manipulating it in some way to create a new image. These additions/ interventions may take any form eg. Artist may draw over, cut out, print over, add to, combine with other images, any medium, collage etc. The visual outcome will be eight collaborative artworks.
The theme for Artisterium VI - “Am I you?” - is about exploring how we deal with ’the other’ in our lives – other ethnic groups, other nations, other people - a collaborative project between artists is particularly relevant and is the inspiration for the curatorial concept.
This year’s theme encourages participants to research the phenomena of the Other as well as the ecology of our responsibility to the Other. We wish to explore possible ways of coexisting with unfamiliar, different or even disagreeable ideologies and lifestyles, while at the same time calling for participation, understanding and empathy. It is a sincere attempt at exploring the diverse influences shaping our connectivity - not only with each other but also the varying life forms on our planet.
